I Used To Be A Writer
I used to be a writer only. I started blogging when I was 15 and connected fully with words. I’ve always loved literature for as long as I can remember. I would read a book a day and work my way through any library that was near. But that all changed when I went to college and started to pursue fashion design.
From fashion design I went onto art and design and from art and design, to music business and many other creative courses.
I thought that as a result of pursuing all my different passions I had lost my love for words because something in my brain switched on, allowing me to all of a sudden understand and connect with the depths presented within images and videos. Before I could learn only through words but doing hands on studies taught me how to learn and connect with what I could see. The funniest part of all this was that words had never left me; I just didn’t need to focus on them as much I needed to with visuals.
Now I am so grateful of the path I traveled because now I can use all the things I love and am good at, throw them all into a bowl, stir them together and pour it out to create a multifaceted piece of art.
I sometimes use words I’ve written as inspiration for a visual piece and vice versa. I even sometimes use songs I’ve written to inform a new painting. It’s so much fun to not limit my creative outlets. At first it was really difficult for me because I wanted to do everything and I still do, but now I know how to do it in such a way that they all compliment each other.
I am a writer. I write with a pen - words. I write with a pencil - drawings. I write with a paintbrush - paintings. I write with my fingers - musical notes.
